Fraud Prevention Tips

Protect Your Money. Protect Your Identity.

Fraud Prevention Tips

1. Identity Protection

  • Carry only essential documents with you. Keep extra cards and sensitive information securely stored at home.
  • Do not share your Personally Identifiable Information (PII)—such as your date of birth or address — unless absolutely necessary.
  • Keep photocopies (front and back) of important cards and documents in a secure location. This allows quick action if your wallet or purse is lost or stolen.
  • If you receive a call you did not initiate and feel unsure about the caller’s identity, hang up and contact Trust Development Bank through our official channels.
  • Never provide payment information during a call you did not initiate.
  • Shred documents containing personal or financial information before disposal. Many identity theft incidents occur through stolen mail or discarded documents (“dumpster diving”).
  • Review your credit or debit card statements regularly — at least once a year — to spot unusual or unknown transactions.

2. Account and Cheque Book Security

  • Do not pre-sign cheques.
  • Use dark, permanent ink when writing cheques.
  • Review your account statements frequently to detect and report suspicious activity promptly.
  • Prevent unauthorized alterations by ruling off blank spaces on the cheque, and always include the word “only” after the amount in words.
  • Avoid printing personal information (PII) on your cheque leaves.
  • Store both new and cancelled cheques in a secure place.
  • Carry your chequebook only when necessary.
  • Keep your contact details — such as address, phone number, and email — updated with your branch.

3. ATM Card Security

  • Treat your ATM Card like cash; store it safely and securely. Report lost or stolen cards immediately using Trust Development Bank’s official communication channels.
  • Never store your PIN with your card.
  • Do not share your card number via email or phone, as these channels may not be secure.
  • Check your account statements promptly and report discrepancies immediately.
  • If you forget your PIN or wish to create a new one, visit your nearest branch.
  • Change your PIN periodically, and avoid using easily guessed numbers such as birthdays or phone numbers.
  • Use your Debit/VISA card only with merchants you know and trust.
  • After completing online purchases, always log out properly. If logging out is not possible, close your browser completely.
  • Keep or dispose of purchase receipts securely to prevent misuse.

4. Online Security

  • Avoid using PII — such as your birthdate or address — as passwords or PINs.
  • Use a strong, unique password for online banking and change it regularly. Avoid using parts of your email address as a password.
  • Keep your passwords private; do not write them down or share them.
  • Only shop or conduct transactions on secure websites. Look for indicators such as “https” in the address bar or a padlock icon.
  • Limit the personal information you share on social media. Fraudsters often use details like birth dates, school names, and pet names to answer security questions or impersonate you.

5. Mobile Security

  • Use your device’s security features such as screen locks or biometric authentication.
  • Delete text messages from your financial institution, especially before selling or disposing of your device.
  • Keep all sensitive information — account numbers, passwords, National ID numbers — private. Do not share them via text, email, or calls.
  • Avoid storing banking passwords or personal data on your device or in unsecured apps.
  • Keep your mobile operating system updated, and avoid “jailbreaking” or modifying your device.
  • Be cautious when using public Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Fraudsters can mimic legitimate hotspots. Use secure networks when accessing your accounts.

6. Computer Security

  • Avoid downloading software from unknown or untrusted sources.
  • Ensure your operating system, browser, and software are up to date. Verify updates directly from the official website.
  • Install and regularly update firewalls and anti-virus software.
  • Avoid conducting online banking on shared or public computers. Use only trusted, secure devices for sensitive activities.
  • Protect your home network from unauthorized access by properly configuring your wireless router and following the manufacturer’s security recommendations.
